Mother of God please help me

I cannot remove that alternator cap cover so that I can turn the engine with a socket to do my valve timing.

I have whacked it with a small chisel but it wont budge. Finally I did the engine turning a different way but I need ideas on removing this cap.

Hi, I have had this problem, its not an easy one to solve. I got round it by using a pin punch and a small chisel. It will eventually turn, just be careful you don't shag the threads in the casing. This will completely trash the plug, put a new one on order before hand.

Spray WD40 and leave over night.

When you replaced it did you use copper grease or something to stop the new one sticking?

Think I used standard high temp grease; don't overtighten the plug, go back to it every now and again and re-torque.

Easy way to turn engine over if you have a centre stand, stick it in gear turn the back wheel.
ps ,always keep the ignition off if using ths method as a warm engine could in theory start, this is how you start a speedway bike engine.

Thanks Mal - I did that by lying on the ground looking in the inspection hole and turning the wheel by foot.
