    weird charging problem

    I've installed a voltmeter on my 98 AT (see http://www.zumzumzum.ro/index.php/20...d-thermometer/
    )

    Today, going to work, I've noticed something weird, the voltage drops when the rpm increases. At idle I have 14.1-14.3V and at 5000rpm there are only 13.6-13.7V .

    Also the voltage is a little low (below 14V at 5000rpm), does this mean that the rectifier is shot ?

    Sorry, I don't see a problem. Battery will be fully charged if indicating over 13.0 volts and undercharged below 12.3 volts.

    I noticed the same with my bike (there is an old thread someplace here). If your battery charges to at least 12.8 V you should be fine. Mine behaved like that with a brand new rectifier.

    Thank you for your quick reply. These are great news.

    It just seemed a bit odd to me from an engineering point of view. As the rpm increases the alternator output is higher (and the load from the ignition).
    But since the engine will take about 100w and the alternator will provide 360W there should be some increase in voltage at high rpm.

    Probably just another quirk of the AT.
