    Africa Twin fuel pump

I guess that everyone is fed up with my stupid questions by now, but please bear with me, I have a long trip coming up and I'm trying to be as prepared as I can.

My 40.000km AT has already eaten it's first fuel pump, and has a second OEM pump installed by the previous owner.

Before the trip I decided the install an external relay (Mr. Hedlund's solution).
I've opened the fuel pump and the contact switch looks very strange (to me at least).
    The pictures are here:

Could this diagonal style contact be by design ?
Has anyone opened a new OEM pump ? How did the contact look like when new ?

    Thanks,
    Ciprian

just looks like the contacts are misaligned which has caused them to wear that way to me.

the thing is that if the surfaces were paralel (from the highest point of each side) they would be very close (i.e. the contact would not open)

the main question is, can I trust these contacts as they are (if I install an external relay), or I would be better off buying a new pump ?

    thanks,
    Ciprian

    Re: Africa Twin fuel pump

if those contacts were points in an ignition circuit they would have been bin'd ages ago so i guess i wouldn't trust them.

never seen a diaganal contact and cant see the point of a diagonal contact as it would require extra pressure and travel to 'make' the contact compared to one that is parallel, plus as it wore it would mis-align the contacts more and more eventually either welding shut or failing, either which is got good news
