I have tighten up my chain before the trip to kerry and now 1100 miles later it is really loose again and there is only a couple of nicks left on the adjuster. What chain would people advise me to get and where from?

Just put a tsubaki sigma chain on about 1000 km ago.Much more substance about it than the DID chain. Havn't had to touch it yet.Expensive though 130 yo yo's in Cork.Should have got the whole kit on ebay for approx the same delivered. The weather down here is brutal as I write this and will not get any better for the foreseeable future.Hope the rain gear is good with you. From a sodden Cork.

I replaced my chain and sprockets on saturday but just to freak everyone out I had to do this.
15 years of hard work and the output splines have about .5mm wear leaving the new cog flapping about. This is the prototype which I'll try for a week and if it works then everything gets ground off and a new retaining ring added and welded. JB weld used also on the splines to take up play.
If my shaft is this knackered then adding a few blobs of weld wont do any more harm until I get a new output shaft and strip the motor down.
*(Lots of water on hand to cool the weld and make sure I dont cook the oil seal).
Every @T I've owned has been like that. I took the front sprocket off my last one at the 500 mile service just to see how a new one is and it was exactly the same! Seems to be a thing with them, I've never heard of one being a tight fit yet. I don't know what Honda's idea was there but I've also never heard of one slipping either.
The welding looks like a good idea, as long as it's true it should be ok. You would hear strange drive noise if it was on at an angle so as long as it sounds ok rolling it'll be fine mate.
Bought kit for £95 from Wemoto which included HD O-Ring chain and both sprockets. Chain came with both split link and rivet links and have bought new retaining ring for £5 from same. The difference is fantastic.
My '98 bike's got 16k miles on it. I checked my front sprocket a while ago and there was play between it and the output shaft. I assume that play is there to compensate for any variation in alignment with the rear sprocket although I would have thought that the cush drive absorbs that. The output shaft material will be much harder than the sprocket though, so the sprocket will wear before the output shaft.
I've had my chain tension set at 70mm gauged between the lower chain run and swingarm whilst on the side stand since it was new and have never needed to adjust it since. Some guy on the ATIC website recommended this as the Honda setting is too tight and puts undue pressure on the output shaft. Plenty of Chain Wax later and it's only just showing signs of wear, although both sprockets are fine.![]()
