    Desert Twin Rebuild

    Good Day
I'm newly joined and this is my first post. I live and ride in Dubai, UAE and there aren't many Twins out here. So sadly I'm left standing in the sand so to say.

I'm partially rebuilding my '98 Twin and looking for some information or posts by fellow Twin fanatics that have attempted the same. I've setup a friends garage to work in and I'm trying to research as much as I can before I start.

Any advice or contact details of individuals who have done this before will be greatly appreciated. I hope to be posting images and write ups on what I get myself into with this rebuild.

    Thanks

Hi, Are you just doing a re-build or modifying the bike at the same time - if so, what sort of things are you planning on doing ?????????????

    Cheers.

    Re: Desert Twin Rebuild

    Hi
I'm planning to rebuild certain parts of the bike: Exhaust system (fitting a after market pipe and refurb'ng the down pipes), Respray/powder coat the frame and replace some old wiring, strip down the carbs since the need some loving, check and clean everything on the bike. It needs minor repairs on some brackets and items like the cigarette socket for charging batteries and the like.
Then set it up for light off-road/track/trail riding and long distance touring. Fit the pannier racks I have for it and kit it out.

I bought the bike last November and have been riding it as bought. I plan to do some trips down to Yemen and up to Turkey in the next year and I want to be sure it's in top condition and I know how to do every single thing on my ride.

I don't know if it will help but there's a load of pictures that I uploaded from Paul Hodson's RD03 rebuild. There's a couple of other pics that have sneaked in there that aren't relevant, but if you start at page 7 and work backwards you'll get a chronological view of the process.

Thanks DaveS, have seen this gallery. It's a source of inspiration.

Nice set of pages and images there... if you have the time/inclination something similar would go well on the wiki

    Re: Desert Twin Rebuild

I intend to take images and do a bit of a write up. Time permitting. It should be good fun to share whatever frustration and knowledge comes with this rebuild. Already had lots of Non-Enduro rider friends give loads of tips, answers and offers of watching me do the rebuild if I provide the beers.
