Well folks this is probably my most stupid question to date - excuse my ignorance, however would anyone know if you can get away without having front indicators on your bike?

I think you would need to do away with the back ones as well.
Something stupid about "If fitted, must all work, etc etc."
(This could be total boll*cks)
AND...if you take them off, you need to cover the switch, otherwise you could potentially fail an M.O.T.

Isn't there something about a daytime MOT ?
ie You can only use the bike in daylight hours --- similar to a trials bike or am I just talking tosh ??

would be using the bike at night also
As Bob and Wee Bro, besides which unless you join the wires at the front the back ones won't work, they will come on but not flash.
Daylight MOT applies to lights only and again you have to remove everything, both front and rear lights and cover the switch, even if you took your lights of anf went for a daylight MOT it would still fail if the indicators were "partly" fitted or didn't work.
yep you can get a daylight mot, but in all honesty its fairly useless, the restriction just arnt worth the haseel.
if your fitting front indicators and want to still be able to remove the fairing then mount them on the headstock subframe, the lights are then visable from the front through the air dam but dont stopit being removed easily.....
I thought it also applied to bikes after a certain year that they have to have blinkers fitted to em(yes I said blinkers!) Can remember the exact year but it was brought up in a friendly scrap one time!![]()
Here's the MOT's guidelines;
This inspection applies to: all machines except those which either have no front or rear position lamps or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked that are:
. only used during daylight hours, and
. not used at times of seriously reduced visibility
If this situation occurs the machine presenter should be issued with an advisory notice recording the above and it should also be recorded on the carbon copy of the VT20.
1. Operate the direction indicators on each side in turn and check the colour, flashing rate and intensity, (see information column),Check that the illumination of the indicators is not affected by the operation of any other lamp. (see information column)
2. Whilst operating the indicators see that the operation of each front indicator is readily visible from the riding position or that the 'tell tale' is operating correctly.
Hope this helps.
