    Angry oil blowing !!!!!!

    Hello All..

Please will someone help me with my question..

I topped my @ up with oil last week whilst on the side stand AND overfilled it!!

After doing 500 miles since without any trouble at all I went for my weekly check kthis evening and opened up the dipstick.. Out poured quite a bit of oil...

So... (whilst now on the center stand!) i flicked out about 1/4 pint of oil to bring it down a bit and checked to see if water had somehow got in....but nothing...phheww.The crankcase breather pipe is not blocked and dosent have any curdle in it

Next(this is the bit i dont understand) - i ran the engine without the dipstick in - and got an instant spray tan.. as it was blowing..Is this normal??? - OR is it because i STILL have too much oil in the chamber?

There is no burning oil comming from the exhaust or any other "bad"signs..

    please help...

    Thank you ...

I'd say that's just what the cap on the dip stick is for - to stop you getting an unexpected blow joib... ahem, I mean,m well, you know what I mean.
However, check for dribbles and leaks under the bike over the week to be sure you didn't blow a seal - I've managed that in the past with over zealous filling.

I wouldn't recommend running the engine without the dipstick in - it might result in being covered in oil

Seriously, the clutch is in there, so that will kick the oil about quite a bit.

It's not good to run an engine with too much oil in, oil level is correct when the bike is level & vertical and the dipstick not screwed in with the oil between the marks.
(I usually check when oil is warm).

Yeah mine caught me out after I did an oil change - I was brought a brew after checking the level - I thought I'd put the cap back on at least a thread - wrong! It was on the floor and the Right hand side of the bike was a loverly shade of castrol red. Smashing.

So, as we usually say on LandRover forea - 'They all do that, Sir'.........
