    ticking noise

just noticed today that at tickover, there is a quiet ticking noise coming from the engine. I had this on a Deauville a couple of years ago. Anyone know what it is. Is it the carbs?

sorry,.......could be the fuel pump getting starved of fuel at low revs due due faulty/lower generator charge/blockage.they do tick a bit filling up sometimes,But that wouldn't be a consistent tick.

Never never never ever ever sit and listen to an Africa Twin engine. I swear they make a different noise every day, from a variety of places too. I try not to start mine unless I'm wearing earplugs or the worry monkeys invade my head.

It starts with the ticking, then you'll notice a rumbling the next day and on the third neither will be apparent, but a knitting needle noise will be coming from the clutch side.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

So So true. The best thing we could all do is meet.Bike swop frantically until every tick tack knock ratle is heard. Then decide, hmmm they all do that.Or I'm gland I'm not driving that heap home.Only way to stop the paranoia.

Couldn't imagine driving any distance without earplugs to tell the truth.

Perhaps it's due a service. Tappets are the easy/cheap option for noises.

Best way is as Yen suggests and wear your earplugs -

    - remember, ''ignorance is bliss''
