Am curious where you are? And where did you get that RD03? I'm wondering if it's the bike I looked at a few weeks back??

Please update you profile to show you location etc

    Cheers

    Re: woot bike finally arrived

it came from sussex a dealer down there via ebay but last owner in docs was london. im up north in aberdeen.

    its had new
    seat
    muffler [whole setup]
    cowl left right decals ect
    handlbars
switch assy.,winkerand star [havnt a scooby what that is]
    2x cylinders
    new steering stem
and about 50 other bits thats just the expensive ones
will get some pics up maybe at weekend.

Im a bit confused as i thought most the bits from front end but if it hit something i would have expected wheel forks ect to be damaged same as if it was abused offroad shocks ect. Its tidy enough minor rust in places and has 44km on clock and all the service paperwork going back to germany.

Ive got 4-5 months to get it prepped for overland to thailand then rest of world after a break there so hopefully it wont cost too much.

I think it's the same one. You won it on eBay and picked it up from The Motorcycle Centre in Blindley Heath?

Very clean bike, and I thought almost new looking in some places. A few salt marks on the wheels (but still OK for the year) and I thought the frame, near the headstock could have done with a better bit of paint.

Overall, I thought it was a really good, clean RD03, and I was sorely tempted myself, as it's just so rare to see one that good.

    Well done, enjoy it!

So you're the git who outbid me on that bike I was the one bidding alongside you in the last few minutes of the auction, then there was a big jump in price at the last minute and I dithered about going any higher and the auction ended (though with the delivery price ontop and other things I needed I was about to overstretch myself so that's probably for the best in retrospect).

Seriously though, congratulations on winning the bike. It looks really beautiful and would have been my first choice (though I got an RD04 in the end so still a happy chap).

I bet your ears were burning in the last minute of that auction though LOL

yep the huge jump came when i put in my max bid to keep your fingers moving. I must have hit the minimum reserve as it took the bid straight away instead of having someone bidding against me to raise it.
nearly dropped it last night trying to put it in the garage in very high winds but luckily the exwife was under it so no damage.

I was wondering if that's what had happened. It's funny because I was thinking of using exactly the same tactic and exactly the same bid you put in but you beat me to it, then when I saw it jump right up to the reserve in one go I had a moment of indecision at the last minute (with your pattern of bidding and getting close to what I could afford, I was starting to think 'this guy really wants it and has probably already put in a max bid more than I can afford right now so bidding any further and I'm just pushing the price up for him unnecessarily). I should have tried an extra penny at the last moment

Anyway, I'm glad to see it's gone to a good home and that you're planning to use it for touring (that's what I have in mind as well). Very shortly after loosing that one I found an RD04 local to me for a little less (albeit not in as nice a condition as the 650 - but I'm sorting that out now), so it turned out well in the end for both of us

LOL. I hope your ex-wife is OK. Dropping it is a worry for me as well, as it's the first time I've had something as tall as this, but my engine crash bars turned up yesterday so I'll be getting those fitted as soon as I get the bike put back together again. Hopefully they'll help if the worst happens.

Good luck with the planning for your trip btw. Riding overland to Thailand sounds like it'll be a great adventure.

yep thinking of strapping her over the tank with gaffa tape instead of getting crash bars. Give her 2 torches she hold them forward instead of one of those expensive light systems. But not sure if the bike would take the weight.

The ex bit you'd find easy. The wife bit, unfortunately, you have to do first and I'm not holding my breath for you Bob.
