    Question Clutch question

In this part of the world most of the bikes are now on their way to winter storage (or, as for me; rain-storage ).

During this season (and last) I have noticed that the gearbox make some noticeable noice when shifting gear, especially when going down. The bike is no going into hibernation, and when I lifted my bike on the centerstand the other day I tried to turn the rear wheel in 1st gear with clutch lever pressed. First, I thought the wheel was stuck, but in the end the wheel turned, but I had to use considerable force to turn it. Is this normal? Should it turn easily? Should the clutch be adjusted?

I have searched the forum for "clutch-topics", but have not found anything adressing this.

Even if the bike is "old", it has only 12k on the clock, so I doubt that the clutch is worn out.

Your wisdom will be highly appreciated.

    Re: Clutch question

    Thank you Taffy,

For a moment I feared that my 99th post should stay unreplied....

But, I can confirm that when the the gear is in neutral position the rear whell turn without resistance. So there must be another answer(s) to my questions.

At least now I get the "Senior Member" status with my post 100, so my clutch problem have lost my immediate attention for a few hours

However, ..... if any other member can inform me if the resistance in the rear tire is normal or not - I will be thankful.

    Hello Meat, Mr Senior Member!!

Have you checked the chain tension, or whether there are stiff links in the chain? Also, is the chain lubed OK?

Have you checked the adjustment of the clutch cable, there are 3 areas to affect adjustment on it (atleast on my RD04 there is) at each end, and in the middle.

Finally, I'm also wondering what engine oil you use as the viscosity and the ambient temperature in Norway could possibly be contributory maybe.

Good luck finding the solution, just pray it's nothing worse!

    Re: Clutch question

    Thank you BobA,

I have checked all the "normal" causes and it is all OK. The oil is new and it is recommended by Honda. Semi-synthetic.

So, I am still confused. It will be appreciated if you can confirm that the wheel should run free and easily when the bike is in first gear and the clutch lever depressed. I never even thought about checking this on my previous bikes...
