    Mixing tyres info required Escape/Tourance

    Hi All,

I am new to Africa Twin ownership and I have moved over after 92k miles on a VFR800 from new to a new to me 2001 AT in R/W/B colour scheme. I have only had my AT for a month now and am loving the riding position, road presence and comfort but I need some advise on mixing tyres. I have a new Conti Escape 90/90-21 on the front and have purchased a Metzeler Tourance 140/80-17 for the rear to fit myself and want to know if this is a viable mix of tyre types for the AT.

    Thanks,

    Ian.

    Hello and welcome

I had a Conti on the front and another on the brand for a fair few while with no problems.

What made you ditch the VFR?

Hi Chronyx thanks for the prompt reply on the tyre much appreciated.

I still have the VFR can't quite make my mind up to keep it and see 100k miles on the clock using as a backup bike or sell her as I have done so many miles and not had one breakdown. I decided to move from the VFR as I was riding it like I stole it and thought may licence will not last so the move to the AT has been great and also reduced my speeds considerably. I service my own bikes and am currently avoiding starting the major task of re-shimming the 16 valves on the VFR which I promised myself I would do a soon as I got the AT oh well maybe over the festive holidays I will get it done. Which brings me to the the other reason for moving is that I found the VFR a bit to intricate and complicated to work on and also parts for the VFR are horrendously expensive whereas the AT is old school and so easy to work on.
