    Heidenau tyres

Has anyone got any experiences of Heidenau tyres ? I'm just after putting a pair on (138 euros inc delivery from mynetmoto.com) and they've been superb right from the off, but might I qualify that by saying I've only done 60 miles so far with no sliding problems breaking them in. As soon as I put them on it stopped raining, though maybe thats coz Rainman is leaving, so I can't say anything about the wet but I'm very impressed so far.

I had Karoo's on last and they were slippery as hell for the first 100 miles and the rear only lasted about 2k miles, other than that they were brilliant. I thought they were easily as grippy onroad as Tourances, which is the only other tyre I've had on the AT, and miles better offroad.

I take it you mean the K60 knobby?

I've just about worn out a set on the Cow.

They've got 10.000 km on them now, the rear is nearing the end times with about 3mm of thread left, front looks like could take on another rear.

Dry grip in warm weather is enough to scrape substantial bits of the bike, so no problem there.

Wet... Well they're no Anakees, that's for sure.

I'm not one to try silly speeds in pouring rain, but I've had no surprises there. They have surprised me two or three times in damp/greasy conditions when braking, rear wheel stepping out for a bit, that kind of thing.

Now that it's freezing, they seem less grippy as well, and I'm actually considering switching back to Anakees.

I'd say they make a great summer tyre, not so sure about winter yet.

But as for the most important parts they're pretty cheap and they look well 'ard on a trailie.

    Heidenau K60 ??

I had them on my 800G/S and they were superb.

Even brand new and on wet tarmac they gave no trouble.

In the dry they were excellent.

    Re: Heidenau tyres

I had a set and would definitely NOT go down that route again. In the dry they're fine, and initially they weren't too bad in the wet either. But these tyres last a LONG time - I think I changed them at 13k and there were still thread left but by that time they'de been squared off so badly it took real effort to turn the bike and because of the edge due to the tyre being squared off the handling when cornering became really dodgy. I also think the tyre became harder due to the number of heat cycles it had gone thorugh which lead to the the front becoming very dodgy - I remember four occasions where it let go, the result of one of those being me face down on the road. If I lived in a dry climate I might give them another try but I really don't think they're suitable for the UK climate. If I were to buy them again I'd change them at 6k miles max regardless of the amount of thread left in which case you might as well get something which will give your more miles with better peace of mind. Sorry to burst your bubble.

In this pic you should be able to see the flat profile of the rear tyre.

    Re: Heidenau tyres

Hmm yes they do square off... During summer I could keep them pretty round, not much of a chicken line on them, but now that it's cold and wet they're quickly turning into sidecar tyres.

The trouble with these squaring off is that the tipping point is right where there's that big gap in the thread.

(Rubbish flash pic, it's dark out)

Holy crap, what are yee doing fitting car tyres guys ?
Well, this is all very interesting, thanks very much for the info. If I can get 6k miles out of them I'll be delighted, I only got 7 or 8 out of the tourances, and about 2 from the Karoos. I can't wait to try them out in the rain but earlier today I spotted some serious mud that I'll try to sink in tomorrow
