    OVERLAND TRAVEL QUESTION: Suspension

Hi guys, I have a '92 RD04 which I plan on using for long distance travelling ...
My solo travel weight will be me A. 95kgs plus luggage 45 kgs B. wife 65 kgs plus 20 kgs luggage ..... Plus the odd 10 ltrs extra fuel.

Most of the time i will be solo 1/3 of the trip will be 2 up. Max weight shouldn't exceed 245kgs.. thats 50 kgs over the 'new bike' max weight. I'll be mainly on road (potholed) with a little desert off road trips.

I plan on have the original shock rebuilt and regassed as after market ones are wey out of budget. However I plan on buying an Ohlins spring.

So here's my question, does anyone know the rating of the standard spring ? then which should I replace it with 105,120,140 nm/mm ?
I'll be upgrading to Wirth front springs but also would like to know which oil to use and what psi if any ....

Please, if you've travelled overland, please let me know what you chose. Many thanks in-advanceMatthew

    Re: OVERLAND TRAVEL QUESTION: Suspension

    Thanks Steve,

I found this website, which make sense ??

    http://www.gostar-racing.com/club/mo...0YOUR%20WEIGHT

I still need to think the front suspension through as its more complicated, but feel more confident.

    Kind regards
    Matt

Thanks Steve, I know what I'll be doing this evening...

I do have one last question, if I was to blow the shock in the middle of now where, is there a quick fix to keep me going.... i'm thinking some way of supporting the spring, eg plastic discs... cable ties ... have you hear of any bodges to get someone to the next town !!! rather have an idea now, than if it where to happen...

    Cheers
    Matt
