Anyone know the type of rear light bulb the rear takes? I want to get a set of LED bulbs to replace the dual filament bulbs in the rear because they do not give alot of light.

A word of warning here.
I thought the same, and bought a pair of red LED tail/brake lamps off of eBay.
The results were excellent, but they only lasted in the region of two months each.
I think it may have been down to vibration or poor quality, however they did appear to be good, with 24 LEDs facing back and radially, so the spread of light was much better and brighter.
One other thing was, obviously the lighting for the number plate became RED (I was using red LEDs) so an fussy MOT inspector might not like that.
In essence, I was pleased with the LED bulbs (for a fiver!) but I have now reverted back to a standard bulb, which never failed me in the first place.

I put one of these in.. it is expensive but it was very easy..

and has be faultless..
I like those, but what I had in mind was just the LED bulbs. I went to the shop today, and I think the number is 1157? But they only had a bulb cluster LED with rotation and spinning. I dont want all that flash, just the LED brightness.
I swapped the stop/tail bulb for a LED on the xr400 a couple of weeks ago - so far so good! "Normal" bulbs were not lasting long because of the vibration.
I bought red ones as I read that red LED works better through the red lens than white LED, but reading previous comments this may not be the case?
I bought these off ebay :-

I did not think there was enough space behind the lens, but the bulbs are no bigger than the standard bulbs, so after further reseach I found these, which have a LED around the side:-

They may be brighter, but the one in at the moment is fine, just see how long it lasts!!

They're the ones I had.
Excellent while they worked (even if the number plate was illuminated red) but like I say, they only lasted a couple of months.
It will be interesting to see how yours last. I tend to do a lot of fast (for an AT) motorway miles on my AT, and twice I rode home without a backlight which was quite a frightening thought after I discovered it.

Also...
I ended up buying one of these to backup the standard light (haven't fitted it yet but) it's quite small so can probably be secreted anywhere. Good price too...
