I did what it said in the instructions which was to wash the tank, dry and wax it. It has to be said, the tank was the only bit of my high mileager that still looked good after 5 years, in fact I sold it to someone on here.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Re: Fitting the Baglux Tank Cover.

This is on the Baglux website mate but you've probably already seen it

    Fitting Instructions
Make sure that the dust is removed from the tank by cleaning it carefully prior to fitting the tank cover. The tank covers are tailored to the individual tanks, but generally there is a strap which fits around the bottom yolk of the headstock. Securing straps with hooks or other attachments attach the tank cover on either side of the tank. Some tank covers make use of the bike's fasteners to secure the cover. On most tank covers there is a strap or laces to secure the seat end. These are concealed by the seat which will need to be removed. In most cases is not necessary to remove the tank in order to fit the cover. The fitting of the cover should be progressive while adjusting the tension on the tank. When the tank cover is placed on the tank, it is usually apparent where the fittings attach. The tank cover may take up to 14 days to mould to the shape of the tank - depending on the shape of the tank. In warmer weather the PVC is softer and will settle quicker. During cold weather, it is advisable to warm the tank cover in an 'airing cupboard' prior to fitting. Do not place too close to a heat source!

    Maintenance
Products are made in a coated PVC cloth; only use soapy water with a soft brush and a sponge. Do not use any detergents nor abrasive products. Keep away from any source of heat. Regularly spray the seams with waterproofing products.
For Cristal tank cover, very fine abrasive polish can be used to eliminate possible scatches.

Gunnar, just make sure the cover is clean and give the tank a very good polish before you put it on the bike for the first time. As have most people on this forum, I've been using them for years and never had a problem. They do get wet but it never marks the tank.

I’ve just fitted mine tonight on a 96 model.

This first fixing point is under the tank cover, which is a flap with two holes in it. Remove the air filter cover and slot this flap over the two fixing points then screw the filter cover back on which will hold the cover in it's correct position.

Then fold the cover over the top and fix all the straps in place adjusting as required.
