Welcome to the site mate.
Not much to say about Africa Twin's really, just ........ brilliant.
Watch sale / wanted forum, e-bay, mc-news etc.
Hello Dude,
Great bike, espesially the fast black ones.Same advice as Airwolf for buying but try and find someone local with an @ and talk to them.
Good luck.
Yo Duncan...
Africa's... Fun Fun Fun all the way, and very capable(I agree with Kevin, Black is the fastest colour...
)
As for buying, Medium (30-50k) Mileage isn't something to be frightened of if she's got a FSH and been looked after (six figured mileages for AT's isn't uncommon). Look for any crash damage, some people take them off road(Some Numpties even drop them!
)
Easy to service yourself (apart from that B'stard NSF Plug!), and there's plenty of sources available for cheap spares (also plenty of sources of expensive accessories).
She's got a couple of weak spots (Fuel Pump etc.), but nothing major and nothing that costs to much cash to cover.
Prices are still high for Africa's as they are a very desirable bike... Alps for example like for like age etc. can be almost half the price (but hey, they're just Gay)
And as a bonus, you get the most excellent XRV.ORG to support you all the way...![]()
Enjoy searching, when you find the right one you'll just know![]()
Hi Duncan twins are good but not as good as 1150 gs bmw's and there just happens to be one for sale .check out for sale sectiongood luck with new bike

In my opinion, for what it's worth, it's a great bike with true all round/go anywhere ability, in comfort...ish.
The seat can be a pain over a hundred miles + but things can be done about that.
The standard screen seems to be there just to create turbulance but an MRA vario screen (in my personnal experience) can sort that.
The only real downer for me and the reason I've been eying up a KTM for the last 6 months is a lack of power. Not much of an issue to many but I just find it runs out of puff too quickly making me hit the red more often than I'd like to. Another 25/30 horses and I'd probably keep it for ever.
It should be pointed out that mine is an import which I'm led to believe are slightly restricted. Cant for the life of me think what led to that insane idea ?.
That aside, it really is a great bike which I would recommend to anyone. Speed freaks aside !.
Oh, and it makes you want to take it places far far away. Not something I've experienced on previous steeds...
I just picked up my 3rd African Twin yesterday. I wen't straight from passing my bike test aged 20 to the dealers to buy my 1st one . Iv'e racked up a fair few miles since then (18 years ago)
The good = They are a very solid sturdy reliable steed and you can ride them all day in relative comfort.
They have a great presence on the road. They see you coming and you have a good view of traffic from the high riding position.
You can pick them up at reasonable costs.
Very reliable engines.
The bad I would say is they can be a bit clumsy to ride. The high saddle can be a pain if your suffer from a height deficiancy any less than 5ft 8". It's heavy. It responds slowly and sloth like.
This became so much more apparent to me when I bought a Transalp earlier this year. The Transalp seems like a sports bike when ridden back to back to a @ Twin. I recently took the Transalp on adventure ride in Morocco Morocco Dakar trip pictures.
I can honestly say that I was at times happier to be on the Transalp. I managed to outride heavier more clumsy bikes in the sand and felt more comfortable in the challenging terrain on the Transalp than I would have on the @ Twin. But at then end of the day I love the looks of the @Twin and I spend most of my time on the hard stuff so I'm happy to compromise. The ultimate solution for me seems to have come in the form of the F800GS. which seems to be a lighter more capable bike which is why I have put my deposit down on one. My Twin might be available come March/April. Until then you will have to pry my dead cold hands from it if you want it. I bought my current twin for £1500 and I doubt the £7500 BMW (after add ons) will make me smile much that much more. But the bottom line is I want one! Go with your instincts. If it looks right and feels right. Then its right for you!
