    Well It's Official..............

..........There will be NO replacement for the Africa Twin. We spent a while talking to the Honda guy at the MCN show today (the only one amongst all the Honda racing guys).

Honda say that the Transalp is the way they are going. The Transalp is suitable for anyone wanting to do any biking this side of the deserts and it will compete with the new Yamaha Tenere and the new BMWs.

They say that Honda riders only ever ride their bikes on "fire trail" style offroading and the Transalp is perfectly suited to this environment.

Basically, what they're saying is, the market doesn't need a new Africa Twin...............we've got the Transalp which is perfectly suited to the type of riding you want to do..............and he'd told loads of people that over the last 3 days who asked the same question??????????

well there not going to say the translap is not suited are they
and i'm surprised they don't just give potential @ customers at the show directions to the bmw or ktm stand
the marketing men and designers at honda must have s**t for brains to think there's need for an @
yamaha with the new tenere, bmw and ktm must be laughing there socks off

what we need is some photo's of the new TA stuck on a fire trail
while a @ just sails past and send them pics to honda

shame honda's losing touch with it's customers eh?
Still that poll everyone filled in the other week on the honda site will let them know how wrong they're getting it eh?
BUT,what of the rumours on the web about this 850 in development, let's face it the honda guys at the honda stand last year new nothing of the new Alp till we told them! We even told them what engine and they laughed saying it was unlikely.

I got pretty much the same response out of the guy . He said the Transalp always has been the Honda mainstay of the Adventure market, moreso than the Africa Twin, so they were keeping the Transalp. Having never owned an Africa Twin I can't say if that is true or not, but I do loves me 'Alp .

Did have a good sit on the new Transalp though, definatly feels smaller but quite comfortable.

By the way, whats a "fire" trail

A "Fire Trail" is normally considered to be a one lane graded dirt road...sometimes gravel.

They are very numerous here in the dry summer California climate. (Photos taken in spring before the green turns to brown) They are used both as vegatation fire "breaks" and access road for wildland fire crews.

Ten years ago, one could go almost anywhere on them and not touch tarmac. Now, many are locked with gates because our lawyers, liberals and eco-freaks are mental.

I'd expect that having the flora around you on fire would be a novel experience in the UK....normal around here

I live not too far from a large area of heath land. School holidays every year, when it's at it hottest and all the kids are off school, it gets set on fire. Very small scale compared to what you guys get though.

Transalp isn't a fire road blaster either. Its geometry and suspension struggle to corner fast of hardpack gravel etc, trust me, I go straight on!! (Or lowside it!!)
