On my 650 TA I fitted an Autocom and Kenwood Transmitter on the inside of the front fairing. It’s out of the way, out of sight and waterproof.
Is that an option for you?

On the Transalp the inner section of plastic is detachable, I just positioned the equipment so it did not foul anything and after drilling a few holes in the plastic, cabled tied the Autocom and receiver in place. Tidy up the spare cables and run the helmet connection back to the seat. You will need an extension cable for the pillion, but I only run bike to bike.

Keep away from coils and CDI and you should be interference free.

Luckily on the TA I can adjust the channel and VOX with everything in place.

    No photos I am afraid.

Interesting Steve, I was wondering if this would be a sensible place to put it!

Is the unit not visible to prying eyes through the fairing vent?

    Phil,
It's not visible at all and completely out of the weather. The layout I have just has the aerial poking out from behind the inner plastic cover but you would have to be on your hands and knees to see it. I guess if I ran someone over they might say “hey this bike has a Autocom and transmitter"
I adjust the autocom from the cut out in the side of the fairing. To extend the adjusting knob, get a piece of tube and push it over the knob and you have a flexible extension.
Works well and I like it because it's out of the way, I am going to use the resess on the other side to carry some spares.
If I take it off any time soon I will take a photo.

    A picture you asked for.

This shows the layout on the inner panel.
