    Ever blown up an AT?

    Just wondering

I was out on it at the weekend with my mate pillion and was thrashing the bejesus out of it. Not to the redline, but close enough.

My mate commented on how long it would last like this and I just said as far as I know it would be a first to kill one as long as it's got enough clean oil in it.

    Am I right?

or your oil sump bolt falls out, which has happened.
I reckon you can thrash it. In fact, the engine needs a good thrashing every now and then. Ride it below 6000 revs all the time and you'll do yourself no favours in the long-run.

I tried with my RD03 and failed. I tried with my 600 Alp and failed despite flogging it on road and off including two-up with a 13 stone pillion from London to Shropshire riding hard enough to get 30mpg. A mate rode his full throttle (110mph almost solid) from Manchester to the M25 before running out of gas but not life. The same bike subsequently did the Cambrian Rally, crashed in said event at 50mph on a Jeep track and sat outside his house for 2 years untouched before starting up happily after a quick battery charge.
I'm not sure what you'd have to do to lunch one...

Excellent. Seems they really are as tough as I thought. Mine is positively spoilt then, oil changed every 4k and I do try and warm it up properly before giving it the berries.

On a 8 day ride to Romania and back (stayed in Romania for 2 nights) I hooked up with a load of sports bikes going through Czeck republic and Slovakia. I spent most of Slovakia at 7-7,300 revs for a whole hour and a half barely letting off the throttle. It never missed a beat.

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

Once did six hours fully loaded at over 100 mph in France (trying to get the only ferry of the day - made it!). Other than running onto reserve at 110 miles and higher oil consumption, nothing wrong.....
