    Facet fuel pump failure!!

    Would you believe it?

My all singing Facet fuel pump has gone & died on me..

The bike hasn't felt 100% for a few weeks, especially under hard acceleration but Saturday it just went VERY quiet. It actually ran every 3/4 minutes for about 10-12 seconds but with no power. Pushed the bike back home and left it in

I've had a look at it today and the pump is silent and isn't pumping anything out. After a few seconds the pump started to get warm so I also tried the + and - wires the other way around but, no use. I've also tried it off the bike on the battery charger but, nothing. Not really sure if the battery charger will actually put out enough power to drive the pump so, I put another fuel line on and bypassed the pump and the bike runs great.

Has anyone else had this failure with the Facets? I thought my fuel problems would have been over for a while. By the way, this pump has covered about 5/6000 miles in total.

Does anyone know how to strip the pump down and what to look for please? Took one of the ends out with the springs etc inside, it looks alright, no rust or anything.

The plugs are all pretty new and, are still sparking. Also, they are nice and light brown so not much chance of the choke being faulty. Anyway, the bike ticks over and runs fine with a separate fuel line.

I've checked the fuses and the wiring coming to the pump and that is all ok.

I don't honestly feel like putting another Facet on but, what is the alternative? Cheers

Excellent... that's what I was thinking myself after finding out what the problem was. I'll try and have a look at it tomorrow to make sure it's the pump and not me.

Sorry to hear that about the Facet, I use the same one as Mitsubishi Lancers, had mine on 18k kms so far, no worries so far (touch wood!). They're cheap and plentiful over here, so it might be worth trying over in your area.

Cheers barbarabainbridge. Any idea how it was tested please? Poor question, I know but everything seems to be ok electrically, as far as I can tell.

Doglegdon, any idea which model you use? I'm not sure which to try as quite a few advertised are for tuned up cars and will probably shove too much fuel through.

Other than a few dirty electrical contacts, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong other than the Facet pump!

I remember last year sometime I think Pheonix had what he suspected was a problem with a facet pump - not sure of the outcome though - Simon might...

    Re: Facet fuel pump failure!!

Last year I thought mine had failed but it turned out to be a loose wire. So far mine has done about 23k miles. I'd check the fuel pump relay if I were you as mine had failed before.
