you will get anything between 40-50 mpg my RD07 used to do about 190miles to reserve and that fill up would be around 20ltrs

my RD04s fuel lights used to come on around 140-150 miles and the fill up would be around 18ltrs

so i would say yours is about average

I get 50-52mpg at 80mph motorway/A road dual carriageway with very little filtering at the London end. I reckon you might have a slightly sticky choke. Remove the two easy to get at spark plugs and see if one or both is especially sooty, that's how I used to tell when mine was sticking and which carb it was.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

    Re: Petrol to reserve?

I have just changed my choke springs for some more beefy ones, before the change I got 150 to reserve, now I have a much smooooother running bike and I now get 220 miles before she starts to cough and sputter.

Not sure about the full tank range as I got bored of trying to run out at 270 miles

    Re: Petrol to reserve?

    Hello all again
so leading on from my original question is it normal for the choke to do this ?
1.choke lever fully on bike starts revs quite highly
    2. move choke to half on bike is not happy revs drop to nearly stalling sputtering ect
    3. then if you put choke off revs pick up slightly engine is running ok but slowy untill warmed up
to sum up my bike will not run on half choke its all or nothing is this normal?
where do you get better choke springs?
thanks in advance to all you wise ones ....Mike

    Re: Petrol to reserve?

I just take it easy Mr Chad, you know ride in 'relaxed mode' it's a switch fitted to some @'s on the right hand handlebar

By the way, I fitted a pair of springs I got from RS components out of a spring box selection. They are the same OD size as the Honda origonals but the wire size is half as thick again so they are a bit tight when you push them onto the cable end of the choke plunger (but they do fit OK). Net result is the choke is a bit stiffer to pull on, but it goes fully off each time and the plungers fully seal in their seats with no leackage and rough tick over. RESULT and they cost me nothing.

I will try and post up some details with pictures if anyone wants later
