    Steering Stem Questions

    Hi
My steering is still not straight I believe the "Bridge, comp Fork Top" and Steering Stem could have been damaged. (thats what they call it in the part list.
    Have a RD07 or XRV750Y model.
Is there a way of checking this?
Would it be a bearing or something?
Is it possible to replace these units with non honda once.
Honda ask about R5000 for the two sets (312Pounds)
And thats a lot of money

It's probably ok. Your forks may have shifted in your upper/lower triple clamps. Loosen all (8 total) 'pinch bolts' at the triple clamps (not too loose as they could drop) and adjust.
If it steers left...turn wheel hard to the right stop. I then give the rim a swift kick with my work boot until its straight when returned to the center. A center stand is a must.
You may have to tighten the spokes if you kick too much crap out of it.

    Sure ill do that again.
But that is the thing Ever when taking out all 8 bolts it still doesnt drop?
Only when I use some momentum and gravity (just dont ask yes I did that while they were all loose )

But Ill first try this all the way to one side and back to center first

Also, make sure that the handlebar clamps are sitting in the top yoke correctly.

Chad told me he used a rubber mallet to "pursuade" his back into line!

    Re: Steering Stem Questions

This reminds me of the 'bent bars feeling' thread. I did the loosen the clamps (and dropped the fork legs through the clamps by a few mill at the same time to tighten the handling up a bit), as advised in that one, but it didn't solve it.

So, I've had a closer look and I look to have a bent or misplaced bar clamp, (actually its gonna be the bolt that's bent, not the clamp) - the RH one seems to be sitting angled slightly back - which is exactly the feel I'm getting from the bars - its like my left arm is shorter, which I'm sure isn't the case even after that 'padre's daughter/hand-grenade' incident of '89, so, I may have to resort to wellying the life out of mine with a mallet a'la the Chadster and see if that cures mine.....

Mmm, wondered how long it be before I started on it with a hammer! It gets more like a Land rover every day!
