    AT sumpguard

Hi all, need some info. Ordered a second-hand AT sumpguard from a uk breakers (want to fit it to the TA). Package arrived today with only the flat underneath part in it. Rang the breakers and they said that this is the sumpguard and that the side parts are sold seperately by honda. Is this true? Do you have to order 3 parts??? I obviously meant the sumpguard as a whole unit.

    Re: AT sumpguard

when i had my first spill on the @ (hill, @, pillion, me, ice 4am= spill) my right handside bash plate got grated flat by the road and needed a new one, Honda promptly sent me it through as a seperate (and charged me the earth). The sides just screw on to the underbelly flat bit so yeah I think they must be sold seperate, I would have thought the breakers would have sent it through with the side bits or at least confirmed the parts they were sending.
Dunno if this is of help to you but good luck.

I know they're three separate bits, but very often when I've seen them on ebay they've come as a whole unit (thought there's occasionally the odd side bit going as well on its own).

    For example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-Africa-t...QQcmdZViewItem

Depending how much you've paid for it, I'd be tempted to try to send it back and get a refund then pick one up off ebay. They're on there quite frequently and sometimes go for pretty reasonable prices (considering what you're getting for the price compared to the cost of some spare parts that are much less significant). Or try to work out a deal for the side bits from the same breaker if he still has them.

I shudder to think what honda would be charging for a new one or even new sides considering how much I was quoted for a little strip of plastic for the nose cone.

    Re: AT sumpguard

it was a nearly a three figure sum!!!! the response from me in the honda dealer was "but it's only a piece of F*###ng aluminium!!! never again!!!!! (this was three years ago) I have since found a ruddy good mechanic in Canterbury who sorts the dents n scratches out.

Yeah if poss do a deal with the breaker for the other parts, or send them back, or sell what you have on ebay and then purchase the bits you need off ebay?

If you transaction was as you described it I think your breaker is seriously taking the pi$$. An AT sump guard consists of 3 pieces end of story.

Got to agree, the sump guard is the whole assembly - in reality no one bit is much use without the other 2 now is it - thats like buying an AT wheel and not getting the hub and spokes.

He's taking the pi$$ I reckon - do I need to have some boys sent round of the type that dress in black and like to wear masking tape over their eyes when in public?

    Re: AT sumpguard

I read about this in MCN some time ago, when the price to buy one side was ridiculous.
so yes, the sump gaurd is made up of three pieces.-
    centre section
    left section
    right section
no one section alone is the sump gaurd.
if it was listed as the centre section of sump gaurd, you have no complaint.
if this is not the case, explain this to the breakers and get on to trading standards.
also publicise the name of the breaker and the misrepresentation and bad service you recieved.
start by letting everyone here know who to avoid buying from,
bad publicity can spread quickly thanks to internet, (make sure he knows this )

    Re: AT sumpguard

Bit of a hijack here, sorry, had a bit of a rattle from underneath the bike a couple of months ago and undid all the screws/bolts on the 3 pieces, all the rubber "grommits" (is that the term?) were absolutely flattened to a couple of mm's each. Went to a car parts shop and bought some doughshaped rubber thingies and cut my own to fit. Haven't heard a sound since, if you manage to get all the 3 pieces, don't forget the rubber bitties between the sump guard and the frame!
