    RD07 blowing ignition fuse

OK, I have an electrical problem with my ’94 RD07. Here’s the symptoms.

The bike ticks over OK but when the revs build (say 5000 rpm) it blows the ignition fuse, but no other fuses, for example the lights still work. This has happened quite suddenly with nothing suspicious leading up to the first fuse failure, no misfire, nothing.

My initial suspicion is regulator/rectifier but wouldn’t it be blowing all the fuses?

    Any ideas?
    Jim

It looks like that fuse supplies the ICU (via the stop switch) and the fuel cut off relay. If you could supply fuel using gravity then try removing the relay and see if it still blows.

Reg/rect check is simple if you have a volt meter. Just check across the battery terminals while its running. Not sure that would blow the Ignition fuse though..!

Sounds like a short (bare wire) in either the starter, fuel or ignition circuit.
I would suggest you look into a wiring diagram (Haynes) 'R' model.
You have a wire vibrating at 5K rpm and shorting.

    Re: RD07 blowing ignition fuse

    Just a tip

A friend of mine was just attending to a gravel run with some friends last weekend.
One of them drove an AT.
He told my friend about an incident just like this.
It turned out to be som wires behind one of the side panels that had scrubbed on the frame and shorted.

Don`t remember if it was left or right side,
But i think there are some connectors and wires bundled up behind the left side panel.

He insulated them with som tape and all was fine.
