    Front Sprocket Cover

    Hi guys,

I'm currently trying to remove the front sprocket cover and it's proving to be more difficult than I think it should be. I've removed the gear change lever and also the top retaining bolt, however I'm having some problems getting a spanner or socket on the lower bolt. I was thinking of removing the bash plate to make it a bit easier to access. I was wondering if it necessary to do this as I have discovered that a few of the retaining screw heads have been rounded and will be very difficult to remove. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Dave

The bash plate is only held on with 4 12 mm bolts, 2 high up the front, one by the sprocket cover and one underneath by the right hand footrest, ignore the crosshead screws they hold the 3 pieces together. I use a small thin walled 8 mm socket or a T-bar socket on the lower sprocket cover bolt as it's sitting in between a few cables etc.

OR, if you're a real lazy-ass like me, and you don't want to attempt removing a crud covered bashplate, you can just undo the one bolt near the sprocket cover, and lever the bashplate down a bit so you can get a 8mm socket on a long extension to undo the lower sprocket cover bolt.

Yep, I'm a total bodger sometimes!

Thanks for the tips. The bash plate is now off and now I just need to wait for my mate to get home so I can borrow his socket set.

    Cheers

8mm nut driver as in the following or 8mm socket on a 1/4" drive extension.

If your bolt heads are rounded off don't put them back in, replace with similar or allen heads.
