    Unhappy Dead Electrics

Yesterday morning - in the rain - I turned on my ignition (RD07), the trip meter came on briefly, then shut off. Now it won't start.

I've checked and changed the main 30a fuse on the starter relay behind the LHS panel, and the one labelled ingition in the main fuse box, though both looked fine . No result.

My headlight works when I turn on the key - but none of the warning lights, or the rear light. The indicators don't work except on the alarm circuit - so it arms and disarms.

Am I missing anything obvious, or is it likely that there is a broken circuit somewhere - in which case I will have to get someone in to find and fix it.

The only good thing is that at least I was at home when it happened!

    thanks

    Richard

Their is a 15 amp fuse in the fuse box that power the lights you mentioned that are not working. Something may have shorted in the rain. How old is your battery? Give it a boost or replace it.

    check the alarm imobilizer.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Hi - thanks for the replies.

If it was just the lights, then the fuse could be the problem - but that wouldn't effect the digital tripmeter, or the ignition.

The battery is good becuase the headlight is fine and the alarm system is working

Similarly I am pretty sure its not the alarm - I can beept it on and off, and I know it is off becuase I can turn the ignition key without triggering it - which it does if its on.

I'm fairly convinced that it is some damage in the circuitry with a short being brought on by the rain - which is now not eliminated even when it has dried out.

Please keep the answers coming. All ideas appreciated

Check all of the connector blocks that are mounted on the headlight carrier frame just above the headlights - you'll need to remove the front fairing - Take them all apart, get rid of any green corrosion and wd40 the lot before pushing them back together firmly.

When you say the fuse "looked good" did you just eyeball it? Sometimes they're not obvious when they go. You might need to check it with a multi meter.
