Front tube blowouts 'n pickin turf from yer ears

Yup, it's been a great day so far. I'd gone for a gallop towards Achill when I spotted lots of big black clouds ahead and the rain started coming down. The forecast wasn't great so I diverted back a bit and down some boreens for a bit of exploring. I was zooming up and down gravelly bog lanes, fellas turning turf and all that, having a great time when I came to a long section of mull and turf and said I'll have that.
I zoomed back and over it several times, well as much as you can zoom in 2nd and 3rd standing up trying to hold onto a feckin rodeo bull, but great craic. Then I remember hearing a bang and thinking wtf and next thing was I was waking up with a gob full of turf. I got up and lifted the bike to stop the fuel leaking out and the front was completely flat, the tube had popped and there was no fixing it.

It's taken me nearly two hours to get less than ten miles home and now I'm flaked on the sofa thinking ow ow ow, dribbling turf and wondering is there anything I need to do with the front wheel after riding back on it, tighten up the spokes or whatever ? Any opinions ? I did take it very slow and carefully and it didn't get any whacks or anything.

    Hi Paddy,
I dont think you need worry, having seen your riding you spend most of the time with the front wheel off the ground anyway.
    Hope youre ok.

    Paddy

Sorry to hear the news, but atleast it didn't happen on the road. Wet turf is infinitely softer than tarmac!

First thing though, did you find anything in the tyre, because it could possibly have been a loose spoke that caused the puncture, if it pierced the rim tape and tube??

Hi Bob, I haven't pulled it out yet to look, just staggered back into the house n collapsed I fired two co2 cannisters into it at the time but it just shot straight back out again, same at garage I got to in town but it'd have been properly destroyed by then anway. Didn't have the tyre levers with me at the time, doh, so I'll look at it proper tmrw.

Howdy Phoenix, thanks for the sympathy Don't know what you mean by the way I ride Doin a bit of campin, bbq'in n hillwalkin next weekend which you're more than welcome to come to, just up past Leenane at Killary harbour.
