    engine rattle

Guys could be in trouble. The @ has being running sweet for a while now, but over the last 2 days there is one hell of a thump out the engine. I thought it might be the can echoing of theboxes... i took the panniers off tonight and its still there. I can feel vibrations through the whole bike and its worrying. Its getting near the longest day and i dont want to miss out. any suggestions so i might get to the root of it. thanks

Get a large screwdriver and carefully place the metal end on different parts of the engine / bike whilst putting your ear against the handle. It acts like a stethoscope . I have found many a worn bearing, noisy tappets etc this way.

DO NOT PUT THE SCREWDRIVER ON MOVING PARTS .

P.S. I can not accept liability for any damage anybody does to their head whilst performing this operation.

Check for a spark at all 4 plugs if a ht lead has gone to one cilynder it will be dragging the other. or put the bike on a stand in gear (not running )turn the rear wheel by hand then feel-listen this should give you a feel -if its all turning freely good at least its not a metel problem and as im'e shiiite at elecwizardry i walk away. good luck!!

Throw us a bone. Top..bottom...left or right side. Do you hear it at
idle or at speed...or both. Year, model and milage is good to know too.

    Re: engine rattle

Lads thanks for your suggestions and help. As yet i have not done a lot about the rattle. The owner of my local bike shop took the twin out for a quick spin last night, and he reckons the teeth on the front sprocket could be hooked. The weather over is here is brutal at the moment so I did not get a chance to take the cover off. There's a chance the chain and sprockets could be shot altogether. Its a geuine honda chain and sprockets with 13300 miles on' does'nt seem much. anyhow thanks again
