bust chain

hi can anyone recommend agood chain and sprockets,went out last night to york dales for ameal and beer. got to bolton abbey, heard a crack and bike jerked, stopped checked chain found half a link snapped(nice). rung rac, and retired to pub and wait for truck to come, my mate had sad face no beer for him so i supped his share and came back in truck.last rode bike in picos last week just glad it didnt go there or i would have had the sad face.so if anyone can advice on a good chain and cogs ? let me know,
