Givi e97 Top Box Brake Light Wiring

    Hey All,

I bought a Givi e97 top box brake light kit but I can't figure out the wiring for it so I was wondering if anyone can help...

The wires from the Givi connector wires are blue and brown and the instructions say to connect the positive wire of the the e97 to the positive wire of the stop lamp wires and the negative wire of the e97 to the negative of the stop lamp wires...

But after looking up the haynes manual the wires are located behind the right hand rear panel and there are yellow/green, green and brown wires going to the rear light.

Can anyone tell me how these should be connected i.e. on the e97 is blue negative or positive and what do the three wires going to the rear light on the bike represent?

I haven't been able to find anything useful using google etc

    Cheers,
    Slanty

Three wires going to the rear light are usually GREEN for earth.
then one of the others is for the tail light and the other is for the brake light.
As far as I can tell the GREEN and YELLOW go to the brakelight.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Thanks for that

Looking at the haynes manual, you are right about the green and yellow being the brake light...

But I know I'm probably being stupid here but... what do I connect to what?

Should the givi blue wire connect to the green/yellow brake wire and the brown wire connect to the green earth?

    Cheers,
    Slanty

If they use the same code as the mains BROWN is live, BLUE is negative.

Re: Givi e97 Top Box Brake Light Wiring

    Thanks for that StumpyFingers

I got the lights working and it works great. I connected the brown to green/yellow and blue to green.

Here's some tips that may be useful to anyone fitting one of these kits...

    1. The instructions are useless and mine was missing some sheets but they can be found here if you need them. It's missing the page about connecting the wires but that is explained here (if you really want this page let me know and I will scan it and post it up).

    2. When fitting the lights into the box, be very careful because the bulbs break off very easily, I broke one of the them but luckily I had a spare as there was already a (broken) brake kit in the top box from the previous owner..

    3. The wire connectors that come with the kit are not very good at all. They look good and seems like a smart idea but the clamp is supposed to strip just enough of the insulation so that the connection is made but I had to open the connectors and remove some insulation manually because it hadn't made sufficient contact. I think the best option would be to get proper electrical connectors from a motor or hardware store

    4. The connector for the box was a little lose and gave an unsteady connection so added a bit of extra rubber around the base of the connector to make it steady and it worked perfectly.

    5. Don't be a dumbass like me and install all the wiring in top box until you have fitted the connector into the base of the topbox. The base connector has to fitted from the outside of the box before the wiring..

    Cheers,
