Advice needed re a fair price

    Hi Folks
I am new to this site and need advice re a fair price for a 1993 Africa Twin. It belongs to my friend and neighbour who has asked me to sell it for him while he is away travelling . My dilema is that my son is interested in buying it . Now what would be a fair price to pay for a 1993 Africa twin in very good condition 49,000 miles on the clock a genuinly well cared for bike .
The only problem / fault I know of is the rev counter is totally in acurate above 3000.RPM.
    Is this a known fault?
Is it easey to fix ?
or is it a sign of an expensive problem?
I want to be fair both to my son and friend so I would really apreciate advice on this .
    Thankyou in advance
    Regards to all
    Mike

Hi Mike, welcome to the site,

I have had a look at Parkers and come up with this

    Original Price £6,425
    Independent Dealer
    £1,330
    Private Good
    £1,105
    Private Poor £790
    Part Exchange £890
I just bought a 1999 AT for £2700 and am really pleased with it.

I have a felling that the prices are a little more than Parkers as AT's are getting rarer so privately you can get a bit more for them. Make an offer and see what your neighbour says

It's really hard to be fair trying to give you an idea of price, especially as you seem to be a seller AND a buyer!!

Condition is everything, service history next, and mileage last in my book.

There are certainly a few nasties to consider as an AT buyer, the major ones are, gearbox output shaft, wheel corrosion, brake caliper corrosion, and if you search on the forum you'll get the low-down on each.

Pictures speak a 1000 words, so have a bash at uploading some if you can, and also go to the "For Sale/Wanted" part of the forum to help you guage your price.

    Welcome by the way!

    Bob
