    Clutch rattle

    Hi folks,

My 92 @ has a clutch rattle. Not the usual type where the clutch rattles after you release the lever, but when you pull the lever in. Doesn´t make any difference if the bike is in gear or not.

Any idea as to what would cause this?

    Re: Clutch rattle

They can rattle when the clutch basket gets a little worn and the backing plate gets a bit loose. Generally it doesn't cause any real problems as long as the clutch operation feels normal. Replacing the basket can quieten it down. As the starter gear is on the other side of the motor, I can't see it being that interacting with the clutch. If it's the small clutch thrust bearing causing the noise when you pull in the clutch, you'll feel it through the lever. The main sleeve that the clutch basket runs on is very robust and very seldom displays any wear until astronomical mileages.

Synchronising the carbs can sometimes quieten things down a bit.
