    Unhappy Indicator on with lights!

My left hand indicator has started to come on when I switch on my headlights. Not flashing, just on. Both front and back indicators light up along with the green idiot light. While this is happening I can use the right hand indicator as normal, but the left hand one won´t flash. If I switch off the headlights the left hand indicator work normally.

Any ideas what´s going on, and where I should start to look for the fault?

    (I hate electrics!!!!)

    reckon your relays buggered

no idea where it sits on your bike but if taking it off and giving a wipe down doesnt help try a new one out of your car Halfrauds will stock flasher relays and most garages

    good luck

Just a chance it could be fusing inside the control on the bars. Or have you already cleaned that out?

I think the green light is only controlled by the gear linkage 'diode'? The clutch also has an electrical 'switch' on it at the bars. Perhaps they're all shorting? Hope this helps

They/re easy to take apart & clean, just have a look and give it a dose of WD40

It'll probably be more serious than that, in which case - Good Luck

First thing I would say is a bad earth on the headlight/sidelight that's causing the voltage to earth through the indicators

my bets on the relay on the way out - they can do funny things when they start to fizzle out - but good luck with the search

As the indicator relay is on the positive side of the indicator switch and isn;t inline or connected to the indicators at all when the switch is in the middle it won't effect the indicators especially in relation to the headlights. So discount relay problems...

    Re: Indicator on with lights!

I have to agrre with Bad Earth.

Last time i had one on my very old MZ years ago, took me a week to find it. I started at the back of the bike and checked everthing working my way forward.

Turned out to be the front headlight ( which was the last thing to check )

Just be thorough and check everything and best of luck as they can be a right pain to locate.

Thanks for all the replies folks

I´ll have to start searching for the dodgey connection. One thing that did happen though - the indicator came on when I turned the handlebars to the right. So at least it looks like it´s somewhere at the front, which narrows it down a bit.
