    Tool Tube Photos Thread?

I did a search and could only find one thread about this with not much response, but now with so many people having bought these tool tubes and a bit of time passing, I was wondering if anyone else might have time to post up some photos of how they've mounted them to Africa Twins?

I've got my first tube mounted like this at the moment:

But after buying a second tube can't seem to find a good place to mount it while keeping them both balanced. Bit wary of mounting them to the sides of the crash bars incase I drop it and it damages the fairings, but having a givi wingrack on the back, can't see an easy way to mount it there either without intefering with the cases.

I'd be interested to see how other people have mounted your tool tubes to the Africa Twins - particularly if you've managed to fit two (and I'm guessing this would help out other people who are walking around their bikes scratching their heads wondering where to put them and what to mount them with too).

Anyone got any photos to share?

I still have yet to mount my one, so I'm as keen as you are to see other peoples ideas!! I had thought of attaching it to the rear of my pannier ( when they are made) with a water bottle on the other side....but I'm open to other ideas.

I put my first on the bottom of the bashplate as in the above photos. Obviously slightly to far forward...........

......after a quick front brake test (oops wheel and tool holder touch) I ordered my replacement from Kitped but have yet to fit it.

Thanks for the replies. Would be interested to see if anyone has fitted two onto the Africa twin too. That's what I'm trying to work out at the moment, and what mountings to use.

Sorry to hear that your first one got damaged russh - it sounds like its been mounted a bit too high or it's been sticking out a bit too far if you've mounted it with the tool tube mount holes towards the bash plate. That's why I ended up using a bit of angle bracket as I was a bit worried about it fouling the front wheel, so using the angle bracket helps to keep it a bit lower and further back. My reasoning was that on the Marathon bikes the aluminium toolbox is usually in that space so it should be OK there (mounting it any higher and it tended to foul the wheel or mudguard on full lock).

I haven't had any problems so far, and there'll have been a few times I've needed to brake heavily but I'll keep a close eye on it.

I think I may have figured out a way to mount them to the front of the crash bars where there'd be less risk of fairing damage if I dropped it, but still looking for alternatives incase that doesn't work out, or if I can find some way of doing it that'd leave space for fog lights to be added later (which mounting them to the front might interfere with a bit). My other idea was to attach some plates to the side of the crash bars then mount them there so if dropped they'd just damage the tool rolls and not the fairing, but not sure that's a good idea either (plus it'd probably mean finding someone to weld them for me and more cost too).

If I figure anything out I'll post a photo here of how I've done it.

I've got an idea where both of mine will go - just not got round to doing it yet!

One will go on the LH side behind/under the side panel (mimicing the exhaust can position on the RH side) and the other will go under the Givi top-box rack above the rear lamp unit.

I've sized it all up and they will fit no problems, its just a case of getting off my but and making the necessary bracketry............

I'll post some photos if I manage to get it done any time soon..........

While the left side (mimicing the exhaust) seems a likely place, this location should be checked with the rear suspension at full compression. The chainguard comes up quite a surprising distance. There may be less space there than you imagine.

Not saying it's impossible, just that you don't want to interfere with the rear wheel travel.

Fixing on the left side means that you don't have side boxes.
    Am I correct?

    Re: Tool Tube Photos Thread?

Heres my placement decission (i cant put them near the front wheel, as they foul on suspension/turning, and i dont want to fit them to the sides of the crash bars, as i'm sure they will smash into the fairing when i crash ) So made a bracket that bolts onto the rear rack - if i use my top box, i'll just unbolt them, and probably bolt them onto that :

Rear facing rocket propulsion system (Noooooooooooooo just tool tubes )
