    Cool cylinder & valve: re-bore (?) & replace.

As the festive season is approaching, I am thinking of In-law avoidance tactics:

Best plans so far is to head off to the garage to sort out my faithful Aff twin. It is burning oil and compression is down. (bit like me).

    However:

Does anyone know a good engineer who can help me do the skilful bits?

    who can:-

    a) stop it smoking (about 2 packets a day) and
    b) increase compression.

If anyone knows such a person I would welcome a contact number !

    Thanks in advance.

    Sam h.

save a fortune try this the elixir of life for the engine, oh do what i did mail them say you are the member of the XRV club and if this stuff is so good send some free samples and if it works you will recommend it too the other club members, i got 4 cans of it for free like that (dont tell em i sent ya)
i tried in the RD 2 stroke engine, guess what it still rattled and smoked then in the kids 106 petrol with 130,000 on the clock and that still smoked and rattled, but may have stopped it using quite so much oil

Is it ok with a wet clutch. Some of these things can be hit or miss.

Hi Sam, I dont have an address (am down here in Cape Town). Whats the mileage on your bike?

Ive just done an 100'000km overhaul due to the same reasons (Check leaking outlet valve with piece of paper at exhaust pipe?), BUT a good diesel mechanic/friend of mine recommended not to bore the engine as there were hardly any scratches etc and original cylinders/sleeves have a hardened surface which will be gone when machined!

Have a look at the link and maybe it helps?

    Hello Chris,

I bought the bike Krugers dorp Jo'burg and rode it home via East Coast then on some more....

It is pretty knackered but it still starts first time every time.

Perhaps I should just get new piston rings and valve seals?

    Thanks for the tip

    Simon

Excellent, there are not many South Africans here in this forum left in South Africa, I have the impression... What's your bike's mileage??

I did my engine in June, not having had a garage at home...don't ask. Without this friend and his wee workshop I still would be trying to get the rotor off the alternator...and have ALL the necessary parts ready if you do it yourself (gaskets, o-rings, etc.etc.).

By the way, I was not able to get hold of the clutch housing gasket (paper), so I simply used gasket maker (Blue Devil) just as I had used for the split engine. Still no leak!! Thank God!

Also check the REASON if the rings/cylinders are worn - a stuck choke cable fattens your mixture and "washes down the oil off the cylinder walls"...(that's why sometimes engines in Europe with their winter & choke only last +-100,000km, whereas my Citigolf here still runs perfect with 160,000km on the clock).

    chris

Hate to disappoint but I am a brit.... I bought the bike Jo-berg as I had written my old one off on the front of a donkey that ran out in the road....

The mileage is 110k kms. of this about 40k is off road...

From what you mention it sounds like getting the engine out is a pain....

If I am successful I thought I may take it to a "proper" mechanic to do the important bits...at least this way I do not have too many headaches to sort out...

I am based in Cape Town and perhaps will be one of the few AT drivers here??
