    Question 100w headlight bulbs

I have been through all the old posts and seems a few members have/are using 100/80 headlamp bulbs in their ATs, not being a sparky will the wiring/relays handle the extra wattage, I can't afford the HID ones right now and I have some 100w bulbs here and the fairing off at the moment so should I fit them.

    Thanks Rog

The wiring should be 1,5 sqr mm to cope with the current for 100W.
Usually the wires cope with the extra load.
If you have relays in the circuit, check their rating so that they do not burn their contacts solid due to the extra load.

There is an substantional difference in light between standard and these "For Rallye use only" bulbs

But they will produce more heat, and many reflectors do get "cloudy" with time. I'm not sure about the AT reflectors and if they can take the stress over a longer period without ruining the silver coating on the reflector.

Thanks for the input it's just that I have these 100w bulbs sitting here and the AT in bits but I don't want the loom to end up looking like Amy Winehouse's hair

    Re: 100w headlight bulbs

Some time ago i bought a CB900f that had the best headlight beam i had ever had. even in daylight when i pulled up behind cars they would flip their mirrors up !! ( i always use high beam in daylight).

Only problem with the bike was a seemingly iffy battery as i frequently had to bumpstart it.

When the headlight bulb eventually blew i found it was a 80 /100 watt bulb. I replaced it with a normal 55 / 60 watt bulb, the resulting light beam was pathetic by comparison , but the upside was that i no longer had to bumpstart the bike.

Obviously the generator output was not enough to run the 100 watt bulb and charge the battery.

So this is something to take into consideration.

The twins don't like HID Rog you have to have perfect joins and it will fail MOT as its not a HID lamp.
Also your tripmeter will keep blanking out.

    Re: 100w headlight bulbs

There are many opinions on this headlight bulb thing I know, but I can't run to HIDs at the moment and I have the 100w bulbs here to be used so If I fit them will it bugger the wiring or relays, I am quite happy with the standard bulbs but had 100s on my Intruder and they give a better light by far, I am naff at doing wattage/amp wire size equasions, But I can't half lift things

Mel I thought you were well pleased with your HIDs, they looked well bright when you turned up at the Ace last week Mate.
