Strange sound

When riding it sounds like something metal (i think) is loose. it rattles and sounds like a loose screw. Sounds like right under the tank somewhere. did strip it off and could not find anything loose, so wondering if it could be inside the engine and if it has happened to any before and what they found the sound to be.

It could possibly be your bashplate. Try putting your foot on it when you hear the rattle and see if it goes away. Mine was doing this. It turned out to be the bashplate vibrating againt the s-shaped exhaust heat shield.

A loose bash plate or simply a screw/bolt/stone sat inside of it can casue the most horrendous of noises

Hello again!

Is it an RD03 or RD04 you are riding?

If so, check the front side panels, where they wrap over and touch the tank, sometimes vibration at certain revs causes the panel to rattle or buzz against the tank.

If you remove the side panel, you will notice that there is a metal strengthing part on the underneath of the curve of the panel. gently tweak this and it should cure the problem.

Had this on my RD07a, it was the bash plate, only done it when excellerating hard or reving up to about 5 when standing.

I had a strangle rattle and it turned out a spare key on my keyring was rattling on the top yoke....

funny and helpful. thanks. i did remove all panels and the guard and still the sound is there. as long as it is not something loose inside the engine then i am not too worried but must say a bit irritating. It is definitely something loose. Living in Kenya the roads are well not good and when riding on it that is when the rattle is most audible. Definitely something falling around rather than a vibration. will remove the bash plate this weekend and hear if still there.
