Honda headlight guard; form or function?

Just got a Honda headlight guard from DSS for my new (ex Ashley) RD03, spotted it on their site whilst looking for something else.... honest, and was a little disappointed to find it's just a bit of plastic.

Anyone got any experience if they are actually any use or are they more of a decorative item!?

Anything in front of the glass will offer some protection, just how much is another question. If it's the look you like, stick it on and get yourself a Touratech clear one to go over it. Double super cool.

The bike's currently got a nice beefy wire mesh guard which the previous custodian fabricated. My mate with a GS has a Touratech plastic one but I wonder if it's likely to scratch with time and difuse the headlight.

Might have a play to see how it looks but I'm sure the wire will be stronger; guess it comes back to appearance in the end.

Got my self one on the bay, it was second hand Touratech clear job. To be quite honest, dead simple to make. It had a few scratches, but no problem with the beam, and looks great.

I seem to remember someone on here, made one out of a supermarket, shopping trolley! I have a set of electric blue ones, stick on type, that have worked very well deflecting stones and pebbles whilst off road, at the back of the pack!

If The plastic used is like the plastic used on the assault screens on the buses then it is supposed to be able to stop a bullet.
    Is it made of LEXON?

Not sure what Lexon is, mate. I like these though, no complicated fixing, drilling holes or faffing around, worked for me so far too.

LEXON is a form of acrilic I think it is a trade name but it is bullet proof. I was told by the person fitting one to the bus that it can stop a bullet from a 44 magnum at close range.
