    Centre stand problems - help

I have a centre stand on my RD04 but when I put the bike on the stand it does not sit where it should as it jams against the rear of the bash plate under the bike.

    Any ideas?

Yesterday the bike fell off the stand, never happened before! Made me jump!

    Futter,

Check out the condition of the stop rubbers that are fitted to the centre stand - see the pictures here :-
Africa Twin RD04 Centre Stand and Handle

It's those small round ones near the pivot pin. If they or the area onto which they abut on the frame have a build up of crud etc on them, then the stand doesn't go far enough past centre to remain stable. Often happens to me when I've benn off road on the bike - end up with loads of peat and bits of dead rabbit stuck to either item, causing the bike not to go far enough forward onto centre stand.
Clean any crud found off and it should be OK.
If you still have a problem then you could be looking at a failing centre stand (internal corrosion causing it to bend/break at some point in it's structure) - best buy the one for sale in the above linky thingy.
Hope it's just a build up of crud though

Re: Centre stand problems - help

I had the same problem on an RD07a as Steve T

When I got the bike it would go on the stand OK but as time went on it got harder and harder to lift onto the stand - double hernia type hard. I thought it was the bash plate and then the rubber thingy but it turned out to be a build up of crud each time I had been off road.

The crud built up and each time I put the bike on it's stand the crud compressed against the engine block. Then a bit more got applied each time taken offroad. Finally a small brick shaped peice was taken off on a big clean up

Now I make sure that area is cleaned thoroughly after each off road bit

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

Well I gave it a really good clean up all round that area and sprayed the joints/springs etc with WD and it appears a bit easier but I do have one question.

The one on the picture on the other thread appeared to show a flat stand, mine has a curve in it. Imagine looking at the side of the stand from the right side of the bike and it curves away from the front wheel (like a reversed letter C). Is that correct?
