    Flat battery, now over charging

Took the twin out on sunday, had to jumpstart from an old car battery i have in the shed, went a short run, i have an acewell trip computer which shows battery was charging fine at around 13v. When i got back I gave it a quick blast with the hose to remove the road salt n sh*t, When i got back on the bike to put in the shed i noticed the computer was showing around 17-18v.
Just been out in the shed there and bike started fine, still running around 17-18, lights get brighter with revs etc, no bulbs blown yet, checked regulator connections for water etc but fine. Do i need a new reg or a new batt or both? Bike only done just under 18k miles. Can anyone recomend a good source for a reg/rec?

    Cheers
    Greg

Sound's like regulator problem to me, lucky you did'nt fry the trip computer.

Some thread's on here re fitting reg/rec from R1 or GSX, apparently they are more reliable than the honda unit, so are cheap from breaker's.

I think Alan H has all the gen on this mod.

    Try a search on reg/rectifier.

    Thanks mate.
Anyone know what year of gsxr or r1 bike i need one from, dont mind adapting the wiring, my bike is a 99 model i forgot to mention, seen posts on folk fitting regs from different bikes to rd04's, guess the rd07 will be the same tho.

Have just fitted the gsxr1000 reg there, working well, not going above 14.1v now! Reg gets really hot tho which is quite scary, mite go down the computer fan route just to be on the safe side now.
