    RD03 choke installation

Hi all, i've ordered another choke cable to try and fix my misfire, Its a bit stiff to operate even when chokes are removed.

When i fit my chokes and springs onto the new cables how far should the chokes stick out ???

Also what do i lubricate them with before i refit them ??

    Thanks

come on i'm fitting them at weekend, is there a procedure to follow or do you just adjust the adjuster till the metal chokes are fully back when the choke is on full ??

    thanks

    Hello Ian.

I would presume that the most vital issue would be to make sure that the chokes is fully off when lever is in off position, then leave a small free play before the chokes start to move.

You could also check that they move about the same hight at the same time

I would imagine that it will be more essential that the are full off, than that they are fully on.

As you can see, I have not done this job my self (yet,,,)

How about normal Motorcycle wire oil?

WD40 is better than 5-56 (Don't know if you have 5-56 over there)

I have no idea what 3 in 1 oil is

I think that you would do visely to not install them dry.

Mine cables are having problems, but I managed to loose them up,
but I too will eventually need to replace them wires in the end.

Hi Kjell, 3 in 1 oil is a general purpose light oil ( for door hinges, scissors, garden shears etc etc).

I'll give them a light coat of a thin oil before i install them.

    Thanks

    Re: RD03 choke installation

    Hey Holla,

I always use a specifically formulated cable lube. I think it's called Moly lube (might be called Poly Lube - something like that)., it's got teflon in it which is supposed to dramatically decrease the friction. It's not expensive, I think I payed about a tenner for it around a year or so ago and still have loads left.

A friend of mine has had a throttle cable break on his KTM recently, when I spoke to a mechanic about it he reackoned that WD40 (that my friend uses on his cables) dries out and becomes tacky after a while, which increased the wear on the cable. I would imagine 3-in-1 wouldn't be great either as it might attract dirt when it starts to dry out.
