Just did this last night on my AT rear caliper....

well theres a few ways.... Bodges vs engineering !

You can try the old wd40 method or applying heat the the threads but this almost never works..

Some people try hammering a "torx" bit into chewed up head and along with some heat, it might shift.

If the head is really f**ked then you going to end up either drilling it out and then using a Stud extractor tool. (get em on Ebay for £6-7 for a set)

Before that you can try grinding "flats" on to the pin so you can grab it with mole grips etc. This has worked for me in the past but again, it wont work on really realyl siezed pins.

What I ended up doing was cutting the pads off, then cutting the pin in half (stops it gripping at both ends of the pin then). I then drilled through the head of the bolt all the through and then using a stud extractor, i removed the left over thread..

The end which is not threaded can be driven out with a smll drift and a hammer or if its really jammed, drilled out...

Your obviously going to need a new pin and maybe new pads after this method. Be very careful with the drilling.. Make sure you drill straight and dont drill out the threads in the caliper. If you havnt got a vice and some quality drill bits, dont bother...

I get really frustrated with stuck pins because its so easily avoidable with useing some copper grease and a well fitting allan key.

If you havnt got the tools then a bike shop should be able to do this for under £50.

    I agree with ted

ive just hads to drill out my old pins for both my front calipers on my @. Bugger of a job - but got there i the end..

i found that the "easy out" didnt work at at all well - so i resorted to using a square metal file which when tapped into the circular hole drilled, was enough to ease the remains fo the thread out using an ajustable spanner...

its the only way to do it ...good luck..

The "easy outs" can be a pain.. I find they only really work if you get most of the pin out using a larger drill bit than many would be comfortable doing.. The remaining "wall" has to be rather thin. You also need a good handle for the easy out..

Im lucky in the respect I have a pillar drill with a vice so I can confidently move up the bit sizes. Depends on your "easy outs" too. When I first started useing them i think I broke more than I didnt !! I've got the "touch" now though heh heh !

Still, as you say.. there are many ways to skin a cat. (run pussy run lol)

If you do go down the route of using an electric hand drill - which i did for my pins - (although i was extremly careful and precise-) make sure you dont screw it up and touch any part of the alloy caliper...then youll be in trouble...

    No pressure then.....
