    RD03 C D I boxes....are they suppose to click ???

Hi all, for those who are regular to this forum you may know i'm having trouble with a misfire on my RD03 .

Whilst running a remote fuel tank to see if there were any air leaks i could hear clicking (like the kind of continuous clicking when you hear a spark plug firing across the electrodes)
It increases as you increase the revs. It was coming from BOTH CDI boxes.

Is this normal as i havent come across it before (all my other bikes have the CDI's buried inside fairings) so if they do make clicking saounds i've never heard them.

It would seem strange if both CDI's have developed this problem at the same time but i thought i'd ask the question.

Isn't it just the capacitor discharging the high-tension electricity to ignite the fuel?

I have never heard a CDI clicking before . . . . I'll have to listen when i take the tank and seat off to balance the carb's on the RD04 next week.

I have changed CDI's two times in my RD03 but I have never heard a noise like that you describe.
In fact, I have never heard any noise from the CDI's.
    BUT,
yesterday when I was servising my second bike (a Transalp) I forgoted to connect the fuel tube to the tank. When I started my bike (working with the
remaining amount of fuel in the carburetor) I heard a sound like the one you
    describe, from the fuel pump.
So why don't you check the fuel pump and the connections for leaking?
Don't forget that the fuel pump is almost under the CDI's...

    Yes, and can't comment

My daily ride RD04 makes a ticking noise from the CDI. I thought it sounded a bit odd so I swapped it for the one off the RD04 I broke for spares (was Airwolf's previously). That ticked too so I swapped them back again. Mine has always ticked and is not a problem. The other CDI is now ticking away merrily in New Zealand where it brought another RD04 back to life.

Don't worry about ticking noises. They do that.

I had a clicking noise from the ignition but it was because one of the HT leads was disconnected and arcing across.

Facet fuel pumps can sometimes click if they haven't got enough back pressure, have you got one of these fitted?
