    Fuel pump cut off relay

Hi has anyone ever changed the fuel cut off relay. I have feelling that the one on my RD04 has an intermittent fault, when travelling for long distances. I have fitted a new Facet Fuel pump as my OEM pump left this world. When doing short trips not a hiccup, but when going on longdistance the bike gives a hiccup every now and then. Does not feel electrical. If anyone has changed the relay, is there a after market one or specs?

Could be as simple as an intermittent connection?

    Could be the relay?

Or, looking at your location, and possibly heat as a culprit, I'm wondering if vapour lock may be an issue? Did you alter any of the pipework, and if so, is it routed away from sources of heat as best as possible?

If you suspect an intermittent connection to the fuel pump, a good way of proving this may be to temporarily add a light/bulb in parallel with the 12v feed to the fuel pump. If the light is on, you have 12v at the pump, and if it goes off when you experience a hiccup, it will prove you are losing power to the pump.

    Hi Bob
With the replacement of the pump my piping does run very similar than it did previously, the only change is that it loops behing the back cilinder head to return up to the carbs. I dont have many options there, only to loop it around the back shock and back up. Thanks for the light idea I will defnitely do that to give it a test.

    Hi GSPD750
My airbox looks a bit different and the space between the pump and box does not allow me to install it that way. I will photograph it tonight and put it up tommorow. Then lets see what you can suggest. Thankyou

Yep the RD04 layout is different. You can eliminate the fuel pump relay as a possible cause by removing it and bridging the black/red wire (12v switched ignition supply) and the blue/black wire (12v feed to pump) leaving the black/yellow unconnected (tacho/coil feed from CDI). That means the fuel pump will run as soon as you turn on the ignition rather than only when the engine is running - but it will allow you to test. If it still does it with the wires bridged, that's not the problem.
