    Thumbs up xrv 750 rd04

    Hey guys,

What are the differences in engines between rd04 and the later rd07??
Have currently bought a rd04 from '92, thinking of overhauling the engine and am wondering if there are any major changes between the 2 models.

I read something about engine mods being made in '96, but what??

Maybe I'll start a new thread with my rebuild soon.

Bits I either know of or have heard are different:

    Ignition pickups are different.
Outer casings are a different colour.
Barrels are different (thinner liners on the RD07 - makes it slightly lighter).

There may be other parts that are different but they are pretty much the same overall. Working through the fiches and comparing part numbers will give a good idea of stuff that's been changed. They are here: http://www.xrv.org.uk/specifications.php

For the RD04, use the XRV750N fiche as the XRV750L/M one is incomplete.

By the way, if you need camchains and tensioners for your rebuild, I have a set that I bought for the RD04 that I ended up breaking instead. I'm open to offers on them.
XL650VY - TKC80's, Mivv Suono "silencer", Arrow Headers, PAIR system removed, 125 mains, Renthal 677 bars, MRA Vario Screen, Scottoiler, Honda Main Stand, Daytona Heated Grips, Sparkbright Charge Monitor

    Re: xrv 750 rd04

    thanx,

good to know, but for now i have a whole list of things that have to be done first.

    - lot's and lot's of cleaning,
    - wheels, are a bit pitted and dirty
    - front forks, both corroded (don't know what to use for this yet, maybe just a grinding paste of some kind)
    - rear suspension arm
    - rear suspension mount ( blast and paint)
    - blast frame and powder coat
    - blast and powder coat crash bars
    - install new head bearings
    - wheel bearings front and rear,
    - install rear suspension and wheels
    - prepare tank for painting
    - remove stickers
    - rear brake calliper overhaul + replace pads

    did i miss anything??

And then probably the engine overhaul.

So tips are welcome in solvents, methods and techniques, paints, color codes....you name it, share the useful information peeps.

    thanx guys

What part of the forks are corroded? If it's the bottom sliders, get them blasted and powder coated. If it's the actual legs that are rusty, use a chrome polish on them not a coarse grinding paste of any type. If they are pitted in the area the seal slides over, they may need hard re-chroming and grinding back to size to stop the fork seals wearing and leaking. You can temporarily repair an odd spot of slight pitting with an epoxy adhesive but it will only last until it falls out again.

It's the bottom part of the sliders. Is it possible to just paint these?? I mean painting them with a sort of silver/gray paint would be alright? no?
What if i just grind them back to bare aluminum? Are they painted to start with??
    hmm...

Am thinking of getting me a can o commandant 4, which is a cleaning paste that brings back deteriorated surfaces. Pretty good stuff, so I've heard.

They may well be sold now - due to be collected on Sunday. I'll let you know if it doesn't work out and they become available again.
