Thread: Best rear shock replacement?

    Best rear shock replacement?

I'm thinking of replacing the rear shock on my rd07a with something aftermarket, preferably with remote preload/ride height adjustment.

I do a good bit of trailriding and also often carry quite a lot of camping kit which probably weighs up to or maybe even more than 20kgs - tipi, etc. I'm 90kgs myself.

From what I understand there's ohlins, hagon and wilbers. I know the wilbers is about 650 euros, while ohlins is probably even more. I don't know yet what the hagon but think it could be slighly less. Any recommendations or experience of these shocks out there and which would you think is best ?

There's also WP to consider. I was quoted £510 for a unit (4014 Emulsion) with a remote preload adjuster for my 2004 Transalp.

Hagon came in at £400, again with a remote preload adjuster. I think "Whealie" has Hagons on his ATs.

These prices are all less carriage, of course.

As you might have guessed, I've been thinking of changing the shock on my TA - I tend to use it either solo or two up with luggage, hence the remote preload adjuster.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Öhlins if money is no object!!!

    http://www.ohlins.com/default.aspx

They are friendly and will build you a shock to suit your demands.

I have used Öhlins on road bikes like Guzzi and Ducati

    and they are really good.

One good thing is that they are fully rebuildable.

But they are expensive, no doubt about that.

Don't know if they do an @ shock, but Maxton would be worth a call - had one of their units put on my ex-TL1000S and couldn't have been more pleased (maybe more to do with losing the awful rotary damper).

    Ohlins.
    Type: S46HR1C1S price £756.70p

Just blown a rear shock today,Jeez' it's never ending, worst thing is it's on my RWB,I'd rather do my money on my black @.I may have to give David Silver a bell later for a standard shock price. At least I've had both feet flat on the deck all day ...

Does anyone here know the price of a Honda spring ?
