    Cam chain costs

Has anyone had their cam chains and tensioners replaced by a workshop recently? If so, what kind of bill did you get for it? I have a 2001 RD07a with 89,500 miles on it, so well time to get them done. Especially after seeing this: RD04 Rattle - the video !!. If the parts are roughly £200, how much more are workshops charging to do the job?

I would think that the Number of hours they charge for and the hourly rate would make it Expensive.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Lord Stig - when i went down this route 18 months ago - my @ had done 98,000 before the sump plug came undone on the m3... anyway after much deliberation about rebuilds etc - it worked out at around £1000-1500 for a rebuild...

in the end -luckily i brought MacP's engine from his write off.. and it had only done 25k and was 18 engine numbers apart from my original one...might be worth youre while looking in germany for a replacement lump with low mileage?? just a thought...

Hmm, I remember your problem ROvers! Given a choice I would go for a lower mileage engine (taking a chance on what other stuff might be wrong...)and keep mine for spares, but as you know, good (or indeed any) AT engines are like rocking horse excrement out there. Scotland to Germany is a bit far as well, though it might come to that at some point...

I had the wacky idea of getting a second bike, maybe a TA, and using all the refurbished suspension bits of mine to make one good bike, but that's probably out of the budget. Nice idea though. Mmmmm, pipe dreams........
