    What does a RD04 CDI look like?

    Hey guys, sorry for the continual CDI questions but I am getting a little confused. Do RD04 and RD07 CDI's look different? I can't seem to find an RD04 CDI anywhere and when they do come up they are soooo expensive, anyone know of where I might find one at a decent price?

    Many thanks, Joe

    As far as I know the RD04 and RD07A do not have the same CDI-box.

    Hoever the RD07 and the RD04 seems the same

    But I might be totally wrong here, so investigate further.

    I have read somwere that there is a company in Germany that repair broken CDI's

    RD04: CDI

    RD07 CDI:

    Thanks for the speedy reply. I wish I had one that was broken even but sadly I don't. I'm looking for one to go with the RD04 engine I have purchased to fit into my Honda Bros. It should make it move a little quicker (and the motor is far from standard too )

    Thanks for the reply, the search for a CDI continues...

    All the best, Joe

    Just took these pic's of my spare.It's brand new but I've had it in bubble wrap for more than ten years it's probably travelled 100000mls without being plugged in ! Anyways it's the rd07 cdi, so you could compare these pics with your own to make a comparison at least ? good luck in your search.I have never needed one but I daren't let it go ( I have a roof full of stuff,If I ever find myself without an @ there's gonna' be a load of new spares on ebay !!! )

    It's a lot more advanced then I thought!
    With display, push buttons etc.

    But the connections looks like the ones for the RD04, do they not?

    They look the same to me, however, what goes on inside all that resin could be different!!

    RD03 -> 30410-MS8-610 (2 pcs)
    RD04 -> 30410-MV1-003
    RD07 -> 30410-MV1-003
    RD07a -> 30410-MAY-621

    The conclusion is obvious

    Re: What does a RD04 CDI look like?

    Good info

    I wouldn't mind betting also, that the two CDI's used on an RD03, would also plug onto and run an RD04 perfectly well. My suspicion is that the same two (RD03 CDI) circuit boards are just placed in a single PVC case and filled with resin for the RD04. One day, when I have time, I'll test this theory.

    Thanks

    Oldmotors, you are a legend!

    So the part number for RD04 and RD07 CDI's is the same?

    Could some refresh me the years of the RD07 and the RD07a? All I know is that the RD04 were made from 1990-1992.

    Many thanks, should help me get closer to a CDI (Also means I may have missed on on ebay a few weeks back, Doh!)

    Cheers guys,

    Joe

    That is correct, at least according to my knowledge. Also for RD03/RD04 I understand that CDI's from Transalp PD06 up to 1992 can be used or 2 pcs of NX650 Dominator CDI.
