I do mine every 4000 - 5000 so it's bang on due for a change, although Honda say 8000 the gearchange has gone off by then.

An oil change is a cheapish way to be very kind to your bike's engine. Every 4000 miles is good, and make sure you change the oil filter too and fit a new drain plug washer.

It all depends on the quality of the oil you use. Poor oil, less milage.

I like change the oil, run the bike for 2 or 3 miles and then change it again. I do it because the oil comes free to me, but mainly because it removes the remaining contaminated oil in the engine and it never gets black.

I stick to 4000 miles intervals as well and change the filter at every oil change too.

I do mine every 5,000 miles with a 1000 miles tolerance for plain bloody layziness.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

You won't be doing that again then R0vers!

...but don't overtighten the sump plug!!

I have seen so many people overdo it. I think they are worried it is going to undo when they are riding and all their oil is going to come out!
This will only happen if you do not tighten it correctly or forget to check it... These can also be a b*tch to undo!

Remember; it is only there to keep itself and the oil in - it is not under anything like great pressure.

Remember; it is only threaded into soft metal (easy to overtighten and mess the original threads up in the sump)

    Remember; double check.
    Nearly too many bikes...
