    Fuse box f"%ked?

Hello. The other evening I was driving home, and as you do when its starting to get dark I went to put my head lights on and nothing! I was driing through the Drumochter Pass, and ifany of you know it then you will know its not a place to loose your lights! Anyway... The next morning I had a look at the fuse box and the 20amp fuse for the head lights was fried to a crisp, even some of the plastic fuse box surrounding it had melted a wee bit. So I got in there with a small screw driver to pick out the frazzled crap, and put the replacement fuse in, lights worked fine. So for the next few hours I rode around with the lights on dipped, checked the fuse the next day and all was fine, no signs of burning or browning up, put the lid back on the fuse box and nothing! Argh!!! If I pull and tweak the box then I here a sizzling sound but no lights, also the box on the dash with you side stand light, oil light etc sounds like its buzing/sizzling. So Im thinking its a loose connection somewhere, maby the wire is touching metal? So anyway, do you think I may have to get a new fuse box as Im not sure if the port for the 20amp light fuse is workable anymore? Where could I get one. Also has anyone else experienced this? Thanks alot, sorry about the long read!!!

    Interesting read

Any way , I am electrician , and yes replacing the fuse box its a must do .

I am not 100% curtain , that the Fuse did the mess , its possible moister to have cause corrosion , and the burned fuse , just enlarged the damage.

About replacement .. ask Honda dealers who else ?

I would never think for a used one , the hart of the electrical system, must always be fresh .

If you can solder then you could go to a local car spares shop and buy one from them and wire it into your electrics, they cost about £5.00.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

The Diode in my fuse box came un-soldered, when I re-soldered it I put it back the wrong way round, had to remove and then think I ended up frying the diode so ended up getting new fuse box from e-bay from a breakers, cost me £6.00 plus couple of quid p&p. Came complete with fuses, diode and harness.

Well you should add relays for the headlight in any case, take the 20A load of the stock system which was designed for 15A.

If you use a new headlight relay kit the old headlight circuit will simply be carrying switching current of less than half an Amp so it won't be stressed again.

If you have used the flash to pass button lately, that is what can send your fuse and wiring into shock. I advise you not to use it until you get the wiring sorted.

What wattage are your headlight bulbs?

Hey. Thanks alot for all the replys. But no worries as I took it into the garage and they got it sorted. It turned out that where I had heen turning the bars the wires from my heated grips and lights had been getting snagged and eventually it ment they were shorting. So problem solved and all is grand. I had to put the bike into the garage anyway as the pistons in the front breaks were seizing and needed new seals so I just got it all sorted at once. But thanks alot to you all!
